Pharmaceutical Warehouse in Gujarat: Storage and Logistics Considerations

Finding a pharmaceutical warehouse in Gujarat is less about square metres and more about proof: proof that the facility is licensed, controlled and documented well enough to protect product quality and patient safety. This guide sets out what to ask before you sign anything.

Start with the licence question

Storing and distributing medicines in India is a licensed activity. Depending on what you are storing (finished formulations, active ingredients, excipients, medical devices, over-the-counter products) and whether the site sells, distributes or only holds stock, different licences and approvals may apply. Requirements are set and interpreted by the state drug control authority and central regulators, and they change over time.

Rather than relying on a provider's verbal assurance, ask to see the actual licence documents, check that the licensed premises address matches the building you are visiting, and confirm with the relevant authority or your own regulatory affairs team that the licence covers your product category. If you export, your overseas customers or regulators may add their own expectations on top.

Use this list on your visit. A capable provider will be able to show you evidence for each point, not just describe it.

Temperature control is a system, not a thermostat

Many medicines are labelled for storage "below 25°C" or "2–8°C", and the warehouse must be able to demonstrate that product stayed within its labelled range the whole time. Gujarat summers are hot, so ambient storage without climate control is rarely suitable for temperature-sensitive formulations.

Ask how the site was temperature mapped, in which seasons, and where the hot and cold spots are. Check whether loggers are calibrated, who reviews the data, and what happens at 2 a.m. when an alarm goes off. Ask about backup power and how long the site can hold temperature during an outage. Documentation and data integrity

In regulated storage, if it is not written down, it did not happen. Ask to see how goods receipt, inspection, putaway, picking and dispatch are recorded. Are records electronic, paper or both? Can entries be altered without a trace? How long are records retained, and can you access them during an audit?

Also ask how the provider handles:

• Recalls: how quickly they can identify and isolate every unit of a batch.
• Returns: where returned stock is held and who decides whether it can go back into saleable inventory.
• Expiry: how near-expiry stock is flagged and reported to you.
• Change control: how you are told about changes to equipment, layout or procedures.

Transport is part of the storage decision

A well-run warehouse can be undone by an uncontrolled truck. Ask whether the provider arranges temperature-appropriate vehicles, how shipments are packed for the journey, and whether temperature data travels with the consignment. Gujarat's position on NH-48, the Delhi–Mumbai corridor, gives good road access north and south, but longer journeys in summer need planning. Contract terms worth reading twice

Before signing, make sure the agreement covers a quality or technical agreement setting out who is responsible for what, your right to audit, notification timelines for deviations, insurance cover and its limits, liability for temperature excursions, and an exit plan for moving stock if the relationship ends. Have your quality and legal teams review it together.
